I’m not reading enough, but a book club will fix that.

I’m not reading enough, but a book club will fix that.

As participants in my Shine Like A Supernova workshop are learning this week, the best way to complete a goal is to make a commitment to someone else and then set accountability appointments with them. There are so many books I want to read but haven’t made the time for. A book club seems like an excellent solution to get me reading again.

Book club meetings can too easily feel like an extra obligation—and I don’t want to overwhelm myself or anyone else—so I’m aiming for a very simple approach.

  1. The meetings will be held on Zoom; nobody needs to travel or dress up.
  2. I’ve already chosen the meeting dates and times—and the books!
  3. You choose whether to attend 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or all 5 book club meetings.

You can reserve the books from a library, order them from your favourite local bookstore, or purchase them as ebooks or audiobooks. I’ve spaced the dates out to hopefully allow enough time to locate all the books and read them. Note that the last book—Regeneration—might be best to start early and digest in pieces rather than trying to read it all in one week.

The invitation is open to anyone who I am already acquainted with, and there is no cost other than the cost of the book(s) if you choose to purchase them. Registration is required, and attendance will be limited. You don’t need a Zoom account to register or attend. If you haven’t used Zoom before, please search for tutorials to learn how it works.

I will facilitate the meetings and conversation on the topic of each book. Meetings will start on time and will last for 45-60 minutes up to a maximum of 90 minutes, depending on how chatty the group is. Bring your own snacks, plus your thoughts and questions about the book, and join me if you can. And if I show up all alone, well, at least I will have read five more books!
